What is Black Gram? Background and Overview.

Where: Black Gram grows in warm climates of the southern region of Asia. It has been grown for thousands of years and is an important aspect of the Indian diet.

Plant Description: It is an annual herb that grows anywhere between 12 – 40 inches. The plant has bean pods that grow to 1.5 – 2.5 inches long and are cylindrical in shape.  The plant has a tap root system.

Inside the cylindrical bean pods are the highly nutritious Black Gram lentils.

These lentils are rich in nutrients which are very healthy for the human body. They are a great source of protein, lower cholesterol, strong for cardiovascular and bone health, strong dietary fiber, and have a low GI.
