Black Gram Dal (Soup) – Vegan

Below is the recipe for a delicious & healthy Black Gram soup!
Ingredients
1 cup black gram dal
1 large onion finely chopped
1 tomato finely chopped
1 cinnamon stick (break into pieces)
1/2 teaspoon garlic
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon each cumin
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 bay leaf
4 black pepper cloves 3 tablespoons butter (or oil)
salt to taste
1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
4 green chillies finely chopped (optional)
Directions
- Rinse dal
- Bring to a boil in 2 cups water
- Mash very lightly using a spoon
- Heat half the butter in saucepan
- Add mustard seeds and seasoning
- Add ginger and garlic, fry ingredients
- Add onions. Fry till light brown
- Add tomatoes and green chillies. Fry for 2-3 minutes
- Add dal, bring to boil
- Add turmeric, salt, sugar and lemon juice
- Stir & enjoy!
